The Election Commission states that ballot boxes and all stationery related to the general election will be issued throughout the day today (13).

The Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake said these activities will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“All officials and ballot boxes, ballot papers, and other stationery to be sent to the 13,314 polling stations for tomorrow’s parliamentary election will be issued today across 49 premises on the island. This distribution is being carried out in 25 district secretariats covering the 22 constituencies. Activities will start at 7:00 a.m., and a rehearsal will be conducted for the staff working at all polling stations.”

Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa announced that approximately 64,000 police officers were deployed yesterday (12) to ensure security across all constituencies during the general election.

Additionally, the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) will deploy approximately 6,000 representatives to monitor this year’s election, according to PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi.

Meanwhile, the Department for Registration of Persons has announced that all public services, including its one-day service, will be unavailable on November 14, 2024.

In a statement, the department said that due to the General Election being held on that day, its staff have been assigned to election duties, and therefore, services will not be operational.
