Colombo High Court Judge Mr. Adithya Patabandige sentenced Ven. Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thero to four years of hard labor and a fine of one hundred thousand rupees.

He was found guilty of both charges in a case brought against Gnanasara Thero by the Attorney General.

The case was related to causing national and religious disharmony by making statements against Islam in relation to the Kooragala temple during a public press conference held in Colombo in 2016.

Two charges were filed under section 295 of the penal code based on a complaint filed by the politicians Asath Sally and Mujiber Rahuman.
